Introduction
The Farm Between pilot project is a collaborative effort by The Farm Between in Cambridge, Vermont and the Highfields Center for Composting (HCC). The purpose of this project was to demonstrate that a small-scale farmer could provide a service to the community by diverting school and business generated food waste from the landfill and at the same time, diversify the farm’s income by creating an organic, nutrient-rich soil amendment. The Farm Between exemplifies a successful small-scale chicken composting operation as well as a vermicompost system.
